A Brief History of the Bank
The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago was established by the Central Bank Act (Act No. 23 of 1964). Initially, only the power to issue notes and coins was brought into effect. The Bank, however, became fully operational in 1967 when it assumed responsibility for the issue and redemption of Treasury Bills, exchange control and the management of the Central Government accounts. In 1968, the Bank Inspection Department was established.
